About

As a true biathlon fan you have probably heard that Kontiolahti is a freezing place. At least Tiril Eckhoff thinks so. But then again, don’t you think winter sports needs snow? So if you are looking for a wintery happening, Kontiolahti is the place to be!

Let’s dig into this a little bit deeper!

Kontiolahti is a youthful municipality in North Karelia. Seriously, we have the biggest municipal proportion of childern in East Finland - and the smallest of cows. Our 15 000 inhabitants are exceptionally highly educated and they also earn more than average Eastern Finns. We are perfectly located next to Joensuu, a university city, the airport, and the highway number 6 – the most important highway in Eastern Finland traveling from south to north. So your ride to our Biathlon Stadium is quick and easy!

We offer a plenty of opportunities to be active. Kontiolahti is widely known for biathlon events, and the stadium and its surroundings provide excellent conditions for different sports. Our cooled ski track extends the skiing season from October to April, and it suits for all levels of skiiers. In summertime, 35 kilometers of marked and maintained trails to run, walk and bike start from the stadium. Definitely worth visiting!
